The diguanylate cyclase 1 (DGC1) (dgc1) gene in Acetobacter xylinum BPR 2001--a bacterial cellulose (BC) producer--was cloned and sequenced, and a DGC1 gene-disrupted mutant, strain DD, was constructed.
