The development of GABAergic interneurons in feline striate area and extrastriate areas was tracked by single and double labeling immunohistochemistry using antibodies to GABA and to molecular markers which identify subpopulations of GABAergic neurons in adult mammalian neocortex; i.e., neuropeptide Y, somatostatin, and the calcium-binding proteins parvalbumin and calbindin.
