We investigated the prevalence of the various genotypes of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in 281 patients evaluated between March, 2000 and March, 2002 in the health area of Elche. Of these patients, 55 were coinfected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The genotype was related to viral load and the co-existence of HIV infection.
