Resistant willow (Salix viminalis L.) genotypes react with a rapid hypersensitive response (HR) when attacked by the gall midge Dasineura marginemtorquens Bremi. In general, infected plant genotypes or species that react hypersensitively to pathogens accumulate salicylic acid (SA) locally and systemically.
