Erwinia pyrifoliae is a novel bacterial pathogen, which causes Asian pear blight and is related to Erwinia amylovora, the causative agent of fire blight. E. pyrifoliae produces exopolysaccharide (EPS) related to amylovoran in its sugar composition and sugar linkages.
