Ten low molecular compounds analogous to galactose were screened for inhibition of human beta-galactosidase activity. Among them, 1-deoxy-galactonojirimycin and N-(n-butyl)-deoxy-galactonojirimycin showed an inhibitory effect at high concentrations.
