Beet western yellows virus (BWYV), family Luteoviridae, is an icosahedral plant virus which is strictly transmitted by aphids in a persistent and circulative manner. Virions cross two cellular barriers in the aphid by receptor-based mechanisms involving endocytosis and exocytosis.
