A canine model of glycogen storage disease Ia (GSD Ia), similar clinically, biochemically, and pathologically to the human disease, was established by crossbreeding Maltese and Beagle dogs carrying a mutated, defective glucose-6-phosphatase (G-6-Pase) gene.
