Cardiomyopathies comprise a heterogeneous group of primary heart muscle disorders with a strong genetic component. Nearly all cases of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and at least 20-30% of cases with dilated cardiomyopathy are due to autosomal dominant mutations.
